Looking for Love

After reading Gina from Acute Designs post “four years ago”, I was inspired to write this post. She and her husband are celebrating their four year anniversary and they make a truly lovely couple. In her post she list five things she loves about her husband and reading her post made me stop and think what do I want in a marriage mate? If you haven’t yet take this time to pause and head on over to Gina’s blog to read her post, then come back here!

When you're younger you think the most important thing about your boyfriend is his looks or his social status. But as you grow older your wants change and you start to desire the  more important qualities. Reading this post inspired me to put together a list of nine things I would love in the “perfect” guy:

Great sense of humor – I love to laugh and joke around so the person I will eventually marry has to have an amazing personality and a great sense of humor! Someone like Ryan Reynolds and Justin Timberlake wrapped together!!

Love for God – I have a strong faith in God and anyone I choose to marry has to share that same quality.

Great with money – He doesn’t have to be rich but I would love for him to know how to make money and live within his means. I wouldn’t want someone that loves to flaunt his wealth or buys things just for fun.

Loves his family – My family is a huge part of my life, so I would want to marry someone that has a strong relationship with his family and would also mesh well with my family also.

A big heart – This is so important to me! I tend to wear my feelings on my sleeve and I tend to feel the pain of others. I would want someone with that same love and affection.

Animal lover – I’m a huge animal lover so if I’m going to have to live with someone they MUST love dogs. lol. crazy I know but I just love animals so much.

Cooks – I love to cook but I would like for that to be a chore that we share.

Spontaneous – Sitting in one place for too long drives me insane. So, I would want someone that could turn a boring day into an adventure!

Intelligent but not arrogant- Not a lot to explain here. Intelligence is important but if he is arrogant and looks down on others he would not be very attractive to me.

Those are all things I would love in my potential mate. I'm 22 now but I would love to be married at the age of 25 and possibly living outside of the country doing volunteer work with my hubby. What is on your list for a marriage mate? or what drew you to your boyfriend or husband?

  1. Those are all very important qualities.  Like you, I had a timeframe for everything: get married by this age, have a family by this age, be retired by this age.  But nothing every quite works out the way you want it to.  I'm young and married, and I've heard the good and the bad about that, but who cares what they think?  I love my husband oh so much and wouldn't change a thing.  I don't think I ever made a list like your's but I was looking for the same characteristics in a man.  What drew me to my husband in particular, though, is that he was not only hilarious and kind and confident and sweet: he makes me feel like I am the most important person in the world.  He takes care of me, but lets me have my independence too.  I needed that.  Hopefully you'll find what you're looking for; takes some digging, but the right one is out there somewhere!

Sense of humor is an important one for me as well. I love to laugh and be entertained. I want someone who likes having fun and isn't so serious all the time... someone like Adam Sandler or Tim Allen (yes I know he's older, but he would be so much fun to be married to). God and faith is a good one also- I don't got to church, but have been considering for a long time. I want my children to go to church and have something positive in their lives. With all of the pressure and corruption that's out there now a days, they need God. Not to sound like a gold digger, but I wouldn't mind marrying a successful man, he doesn't have to be rich, but honestly, I'd like to be a work from home mom someday so I can be home with the kids. He doesn't have to spoil me with material things, but someone who is able to take care of his family. I want to marry someone kind, caring and sensitive. Someone who believes in me and encourages me to go for what I want, rather than discourage and make feel as if I'm not good enough. Brains are a big one for me, but I'm with you no arrogance. I've been down that road several times. Dated a few smarties who were almost too smart and they made me feel as if I was the dumbest person alive. That's not cool. And, he has to be a family guy and a cat and dog lover also. No snakes, no birds, no rodents, but he must love dogs and cats, lol. Okay maybe not must, but I would prefer he did.

So, that's what I'm looking for. I can be very picky. Not sure if the guy I want exists, but who knows. I believe there is a soulmate for everyone, I'm just having a very hard time finding mine.

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and commenting. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you and your sisters have a wonderful time at Sam Sparrow concert. Take care!
