Surviving The Holidays- Single Edition

Woo you survived Thanksgiving but now here comes Christmas and the even more dreaded New Years celebration. During this time of year many single ladies out there may start to hyperventilate at the sheer idea of spending the holidays alone. But no fear ladies, I have four reasons why being single for the holidays is actually a blessing in disguise.

  1. Eat all you want without worrying about your figure! Think about it….without Mr.Sexy Pants around you can eat as much ham and turkey as you want without worrying about adding an extra band around your waste. Get as plump as you want without worrying about his roaming eyes.

  2. No uncomfortable visits with his family. That's right ladies! No awkward conversation with people you barely know. You won’t have to worry about reading up on Politics and the latest football score, knowing deep down inside that you have no idea what you’re talking about. Being single allows your brain to rest and do what it does best, shop!

  3. You can make your own decisions about where to go and what to do. Need I say more…you can skip the argument where he decides to pretend to be polite by asking YOU where you would like to go, but on the inside he’s really hoping you’ll just choose to go where he wants to go. Who has time for that, right!

  4. Free to meet new people. If you are rolling solo for the Holidays you will be free to roam and mingle with new people. Who knows you may find mister right or at least a cool new friend to make new memories with next year!

Whether you use my tips above as a confidence boost to face this holiday season alone or not. Make sure to just enjoy this upcoming break, a time for you to hang out with your family and have crazy amounts of fun! Eat as much food as you want and knock back those beers like they are going out of style. Just kidding, I don’t advocate heavy drinking in any way or form. But I am pro fun! And you know what kills a good time faster than you can say dancing divas….having a UTI. Random I know folks but its true. Drinking can put a heavy burden on your bladder and you can go from resident party girl straight to party pooper in no time. To prevent your bladder from throwing a monkey wrench in your party plans, be sure to keep a box of AZO cranberry pills in your purse. Take two of these babies with a full glass of water before you party and prevent bladder pain all together.

Food Photography- My New Obsession

nightsdinner

So its official my sister wants to be the only skinny one in the house because she continues to dangle mouth watering meals in front of my face. This beauty is similar to another sexy meal she made a while ago that I also just had to photograph before taking a bite.

yummy

This got me to thinking. I’m a lifestyle blogger right…so why can’t I share my love of food on my blog. At first I was hesitant to include this secret obsession of mine but you know what sometimes you just have to throw up your hands and yell YOLO. Well maybe not really. I don’t know about you but that saying needs to be destroyed. But back to the point, ever since I purchased my new DSLR I’ve had this strong urge to photograph my food. The pictures they just speak to me and I just can’t take a bite of any dish before stripping it down and photographing it. That sounds bad but you know what I mean.

The point of this late night sleep induced post is to say that you may see a few food shots on this blog from time to time so don’t be alarmed. I haven’t turned my back on the beauty world I’ve just decided to invite something new to my blog. What do you say? Is this okay with you?

Carob Brownies- A Yummy Chocolate Treat Without The Calories

Carob brownie recipe

Just because I’m a beauty blogger doesn’t mean I don’t occasionally blog about things other than the latest lipstick or new fashion trend. I have a huge chocolate allergy and for years I would sit and stare while my family would chomp down chewy delicious double fudge brownies and make those ooo and ahh noises that made me want to rip the brownie from their hand and devour it.

After many many long years with no chocolate my sister stumbled upon a chocolate alternative, carob. Carob is a tropical pod that contains an edible pulp. When dried the pulp can be roasted and turned into the most delicious non chocolate treats you have ever tasted! Along with the incredible taste Carob has 13 percent less fat than cocoa powder. That’s enough to make you smile right there! And get this, you can’t even tell the difference in taste. Trust me on this, my sister the self proclaimed chocolate connoisseur tasted one of these brownies and honestly couldn’t detect a difference from the carob brownies and their normal fudge brownies.

Today I would like to share a yummy Carob recipe I found over at Noms for The Poor.

Noms for the poor recipe

Ingredients:

3/4 cup Butter
2/3 cup Carob Powder (or Cocoa)
1 cup Sugar
1/4 tsp Salt
1 tsp Vanilla (opt.)
3 Eggs
1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
1/2 cup Optional Add-ins (chocolate chips/chunks, dried fruit, nuts, etc.)

Chatfield's Carob Powder

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9x9-inch or 9x13 inch pan with parchment paper and grease parchment paper.

2. In a medium-sized pot, over medium heat, melt the butter, allowing it to get quite hot. Remove the pot from the heat and whisk in the carob powder. Let mixture cool completely.

3. Once cooled, whisk in the sugar, salt, and vanilla. Add the eggs all at once and whisk until smooth. Fold in the flour just until incorporated. If using add-ins, fold in.

4. Spread batter into the prepared pan and baked until a toot-pick comes out with moist crumbs but not wet, 18 - 20 minutes, 10 - 12 if using a larger pan. Err on the side of underbaked - if overbaked, the brownies will toughen. Let the brownies cool completely before cutting. Store in an air-tight container for up to five days, or sealed in the freezer for up to 2 months. You can eat them straight from the freezer, or allow them to come to room temperature before eating.

HP Ultrabook™ Bag Contest: Runway Meets Technology

HP_Post_logo (1)
This post is sponsored by the sleek, stylish, lightweight HP Spectre XT Ultrabook™, inspired by Intel. Vote for your favorite bag design!

Are you a fan of Project Runway? If so you may have spotted a few HP products in the show like the HP ENVY Ultrabook™. HP products have assisted designer hopefuls in making their dreams come true. And I don’t know about you but I'm obsessed with the fashion pieces these lovely people are able to come up with. Well HP and Project Runway are showing that they can join forces to make not only fashionable clothes but fashionable tech accessories also.

The time has come for fashion and technology to unite. Why not? Our technology is as mobile as we are. Why can't we have accessories to keep our mobile devices in harmony with our fashion. It is a good thing the people at HP have decided to join the style revolution and allow us to decide how we want to glamorize our HP mobile devices. Let your voices be heard and click here to vote on your favorite designs in the HP Ultrabook™ bag contest.

When it comes to technology accessories I usually go for things that stand out, products that say I’m quirky and I love it. That's why these designs from Mondo Guerra are two of my favorite designs in the HP Ultrabook™ bag contest. They both remind me of an old 80’s video game. I mean PAC Man anyone?

Me, Myself, and I- My Beautiful Crazy Life linkup

I enjoyed my weekend and was super sad to see it go. Monday hit me like a ton of bricks and I had zero energy to write up a great post, but thankfully Lily stepped in and shared this DIY hair mask, great for girls with frizzy or curly hair. After much thought I have decided to only post three articles a week with Tuesday and Thursday reserved for guest post and link ups.So if you'd like to guest post on this here blog please email me at info@sweettartbeauty.com. Speaking of link ups today is another Me, Myself, and I. If you would like to participate click here and while you're there visit a few new bloggers.

1) When you're feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?

When I’m feeling down I usually go speak with my mom or I start listening to my favorite melodies on my phone. Basically anything to distract me from my negative thoughts.

2)  If you had to live in a different time period which would you prefer?

I would have loved to live in the 70s because I'm obsessed with that whole fashion and peace loving vibe of that time period.

Source: via Danielle on Pinterest

3)  What is the most creative Halloween costume you've ever worn?

I have never celebrated Halloween so I couldn't answer this question. But I do hate going into stores during this time period. Nothing freaks me out more than some hanging Clown head. Eww…

4)  Five weird things about you we wouldn't know without being told?

Um, lets see I don’t like my food to touch. Everything must remain separate until I eat it. I don't know if this is classified and weird but I love to mix water with juice because it tones down the sweetness. I Hate the fat on chicken or any meat for that matter, it literally makes me gag. I hate when water touches my feet if I'm not in the shower. Something about that makes me want to cry. Um last would have to be my dislike for people who put ketchup on their Philly cheese steak. LOL I'm just kidding my sister does this but its just not right.

5)  What would you tell your 16-year-old self?

To ignore the comparisons and hurtful comments from “friends”. I would encourage my 16 year old self to be content and happy being me and thats its OK to stand up for yourself, even if that person gets upset. You can’t please everyone.

I Was Born This Way

btwf_wallpaper_1680x1050_alia1

Bullying. Remember when this was something we only had to worry about from neighborhood kids or our school mates? Granted it sucked then but at least you could return home and be in a safe environment with your family. For Kids and adults today bullying has penetrated the privacy of our homes and threatens to still our joy and will to live.

We have been bombarded with so many tragic stories of young people ending their lives because of what someone said or did. When does it stop? I was inspired to write this after reading the comments under one of my favorite YouTube videos. Instead of saying kind things about the young woman people were instead bashing her and saying rude things about her appearance, how much money she makes, and the validity of her relationship. What makes a person so upset that they feel the only way to relieve their pain is to inflict it upon others.

Even in the blogging community you will find bloggers bullying one another and for what? We are all doing the same thing. Not one person is better than another. I can't even go on Pinterest without seeing people have long winded arguments because one person decided to share their honest and innocent opinion. What is wrong with people?

The age old rule still applies if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all. Simple as that. And when someone makes a comment that is rude you can stop the cycle by either responding in a kind manner or simply ignoring them. Because in the end that person that felt the need to attack you online probably gets harassed on a daily basis in his or her own life. So you replying rudely will only feed their anger and then this vicious cycle of online bullying will never end.

I am so honored to be involved in the Born This Way Foundation! Lady Gaga has done volumes to bring awareness to bullying and she continues to spear head the anti-bullying campaign through her Born This Way Foundation. For the back to school season, Lady Gaga and Office Depot have joined forces to encourage todays youth to feel confident about their individuality. Office Depot has created products specifically for this cause, including “Bravery Bracelets,””Kindness Sticks” Post-it notes, limited-edition sharpie pens, and empowerment gift cards. Each item is printed with a kind and positive message.

Thank you to Seventeen magazine for sending me an empowerment gift card! Without hesitation I made my way to the local Office Depot and went browsing for school supplies. I picked up a few items to create my positive thinking notebook, which I will share with you all in the future. Here are a few shots of my Office Depot shopping trip!

If you haven’t yet please stop by your local Office Depot and support the Born This Way Foundation in their effort to #SupplyBravery. Also, spend a few moments today to read and memorize the three pillars of the Born This Way Foundation and help spread the word.

Me, Myself, and I

Its time for Me, Myself, and I. A fun link up created by Breanna over at My Beautiful, Crazy Life.

1) What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?

If there were a guarantee I would not fail, I would pack up my bags and move to California to pursue my dreams in the field of makeup artistry and photography. I feel that California is the perfect place to perfect your skills but I hear its so expensive to live there.

2) If you had only six months left to live, what would you do with the time?

I would do missionary work and spend as much time as possible with my family. I would probably also sit down and finally write that book I've been working on since high school. But most importantly I would just try to accomplish as many of my goals as possible before leaving this earth.

3) If a front page news article was written on you, what would the headline be?

Orlando area woman found buried alive in makeup and clothes. LOL. Its sad but the with the current state of my room, this could actually happen.

4) What is your biggest pet peeve?

I absolutely hate it when someone grabs my face or tries to touch me under my chin. It drives me up a wall, it just feels like I'm being attacked. Really hate that.

5) What is your favorite chick flick movie?

I guess I would have to say……. The Notebook. Yes, I know its pretty old but hey it's a classic. I can watch that movie a hundred times and never grow tired of it!

Music Sucks

Music sucks these days and I’m going on a radio strike.I believe anyone born before 2000 knows what Real music sounds like. Songs that reminded you of the struggles in the world but encouraged you to be a better person. I know I sound like one of those PBS oldies infomercials but seriously I was born in the wrong era.

Growing up my parents who were both born in 1960s would play music from that era and tell us stories of their childhood. How music brought together a generation. It's really beautiful when you think about it. Despite all the struggles a mutual love for good music could bring a wide array of people together.

Some of my favorite artist from yester year would have to be :

  • Temptations

  • The Beatles

  • Marvin Gaye

  • The monkees

  • Gladys Knight

  • The Four Tops

  • Sam Cooke

  • Johnny Cash

  • Smokey Robinson and more.

All artist that made real heart felt music. I think we're missing that now. People are only concerned with a catchy beat and sub par lyrics. I don't know about you but I'm embarrassed to live in an era where songs about your car or how many hoes ( uh hum I mean women)you have is relevant.

I applaud musicians like Beyonce, Brandy, Monica, Adele, Robin Thick, john legend, and others who strive to make good music. Not just quick radio hits that have no substance.

Yes, I wish I could have been raised in the late 60s and 70s so I could have experienced some of my favorite artist live. I mean could you imagine seeing the original Temptations in concert or even the Jackson Five! Aww it would have been magical!

What year would you love to go to?  And what's your opinion on today's music.

P.S Thank you for being patient. Regular beauty and fashion fill post will resume next week. Stay positive!

Sponsor Spotlight–Getting to Know You

Good morning everyone! Today is a special day, want to know why? Its sponsor spotlight day, which means its time to meet new talented bloggers.

IMG_4975

My name is Jennifer, but you can call me Jen if you want. In a nutshell, I'm a 33-year-old second-time college student. I realized last year that I didn't want to be stuck in my boring desk job forever and decided to go back to school to become a graphic designer! Best decision I ever made!! (Not that I necessarily mind desk work, just as long as it's balanced with being creative!)

What does true beauty mean to you?

I would define that as being confident with yourself and your abilities. True beauty comes from the inside and has more to do with attitude than outer appearance.

Beauty is inside and out, you can be beautiful on the outside, but true beauty is on the inside.

Aunie Sauce is a blog about the girl of "not's." Not a mom. Not a DIY-er. Not a cook. It's a story about a swanky Idaho girl with a saucy little blog.

What is your definition of true beauty?

True Beauty is having a heart for the world. It's one thing to be a drop-dead stunner, but the ones who want to improve the world are the real beauties. Whether it's with community service, spreading God's word, or even opening their heart to a stranger. I am amazed at the beauty of all the women around me!

I hope you will take the time to visit each of these lovely ladies! Head on over and give them a warm hello!

Life as a blogger: Things I’ve learned Vol:1 Advertisers

I was inspired to write this new column on my blog quite recently. After speaking with other bloggers and working with a few advertisers myself, I feel that there are some reminders that new AND experienced bloggers need to know. I chose to start this series with the topic of advertisers after receiving an email from a kind gentlemen who was looking for a few bloggers to write about his new product. Some of you might be saying: “ok, and what's your point?” Well this gentlemen could not afford to pay or offer sample products to bloggers for compensation.

Now I know after reading that last sentence some of you are probably saying, “oh he’s a user”, “he just wants good work for free”, “I should be compensated for my work”. Am I right? It’s ok you can admit it. Even I have thought these things in the past. But, after removing my wants from the equation I realized that there are different types of advertisers and we should be clear about when its ok to stand your ground and ask for product and when its simply ok to do free work.

Now again this is totally depending on how large your blog is. If you have over one thousand followers then yeah you should expect to receive products to review. But if you are below those numbers and you are approached by an advertising company here are a few things to keep in mind.

Sponsored Post

These type of post usually involve you receiving some form of press release and you are expected to share this on your blog. Usually , at least in my experience, you don’t usually receive product to review with this type of advertising. So the question is,when should you accept these and when should you say no. The latter is pretty easy. If they want you to write about their product or service, share on all of your social media site, and make it appear that you’ve tried the product by using phrases like”this product is amazing”, or “you just HAVE to purchase  this” those are usually the ones I will turn down. You want to be honest with your readers. Just like animals can smell fear, your readers can smell a fake a mile away.

Also if the sponsored post has NOTHING to do with your blog’s theme just say no. I had a huge problem with saying no when I first started and this just made me seem flaky and all over the place. So I ended up losing followers because I couldn’t stomach saying no. Its ok to refuse to do a sponsored post on your blog. Just always be mindful of how you respond to the advertiser. Never use rude language or speak down to them because this could hurt you in the future.

Product Reviews-How Not To Be Tacky

In reference to the gentlemen mentioned earlier, when he responded to my email with regards to his interest in being featured on my site. He said something that made me tense up. Not that he offended me or that he was unkind but he made the point that most bloggers expect free products to review when approached by companies. But, he said that he was a fairly new company and couldn’t afford to pay me or ship a review product at this moment, but that he would promote me on his social networks. I want to pause here and ask you to think about what your reaction would have been to this email. Would you have told him HECK NO, I don’t blog without compensation, OR would you have realized that this was an opportunity for you to receive extra exposure for your blog as well as help a new company gain exposure.

I thought the latter and so I agreed to write about his product because I do like it and I thought  it would be beneficial for my readers. After writing the post and emailing it to the company, he was very kind and assured me that my kind deed would not go un-noticed.The point of this story is that you don’t always have to receive products to review. Sometimes companies simply don’t have the means to supply you a free product to feature on your blog. But, by being kind and doing your best work for companies you will be able to build a strong relationship with brands which will help you out tremendously in the long run.

Have you have experience with advertisers? Do you think bloggers should work for free? Please discuss in the comments below!

Friday Letters

I’ve had the pleasure of stumbling upon some really cool bloggers lately and while doing so I found this cool linkup called Friday Letters, a fun way to reflect on the week and get to know other bloggers! You’ll begin to see this more on the blog , I hope you will enjoy this!

Dear Shilo, thank you for trying to cheer me up this week. I’ve been really depressed but you have stayed by my side day and night. What would mommy do without you!

DSCF8313

Dear Canon Rebel, you’ve been giving me such a hard time lately. I know you are the beezneez and all but could you please give me a hint on how to get you to give me quality photos every time.

Dear Colleen, thank you so much for doing this guest post on the blog this week! I’m heading out to purchase the ingredients so that I can try this DIY facial this weekend.

Dear week, you haven’t been kind to me and I am so happy you’re over. Here’s to hoping next week will be better.

Dear readers, thank you for keeping up with the blog. I haven’t been consistent with the blog post lately and for that I apologize. Its just that I’m dealing with a lot right now and have absolutely no creative bone left in my body. Promise you things will get better around here! Thank you for putting up with me.

Wish~n~Wednesday

Time for another Wishing Wednesday, where I share my wants for the week!

I really wish I could switch places with Solange Knowles and become Beyonce’s little sister for a day. I love her so much and it would be so cool to chill with her. Plus I would get a chance to play with baby blue! Forgive me for having this mini fangirl moment !

I'm tired of so much online negativity. Really wishing people were not so harsh. Sucks to be surrounded by angry people all the time who only want to tear others down. It's a major bummer.

Omgosh waiting for a particular set of test to return is driving me crazy. This is something that is realty important to me and it just feels like the week is purposely going by slow.

Blogging can be fun but I wish I had a backup writer. Some days I'm just not over flowing with creativity and at those times it would be great to have a backup writer for my blog.

What are you wishing for this week? let me know in the comments below. Hope you are having a food week so far. Enjoy your hump day!

How to Improve the Health of your Hair

Good morning everyone! Please welcome Eva to the blog today as she shares tips to achieve healthy hair!

Everyone wants to have healthy hair and it is possible to make the most of yours, if you follow the advice in this article. Here we aim to give you a few helpful tips that will help you optimize the health of your hair, so you can enjoy luxuriant locks.

Protect it from the sun

The sun can be devastating to your hair so it is important – especially in the midst of summer – to protect it. This can mean everything from regular conditioning to wearing a hat or headscarf when the sun is really strong. On holiday you can also whack on a layer of conditioner while you sunbathe to protect your hair from heat and UV rays.

Go easy on the hair spray

Hair spray can be great if you are trying to create a gravity-defying do, but it is not something that you should fire into your hair all the time. Hairspray dries hair out and damages it if you wear it too much. The secret is to avoid it as an everyday product, and save it for when you really need it.

Moroccan Oil

Moroccan Oil products are a fantastic way to improve the condition of your locks and there are numerous products to choose from. You can select from hydrating travel kits to moisture repair conditioner, moisture repair shampoo, oil treatment and extra volume conditioner. Treating your hair to quality products does really make a difference to its condition.

Wash it every day

Although in the past some people have claimed that washing your hair every day damages it, the latest consensus is that it is actually the best thing you can do for it. Your hair becomes dirty throughout the day, just as your face or hands do. Hair follicles also produce sebum which can make your hair greasy if you don’t keep it clean by washing it every day.

If you follow the advice here you are sure to improve the condition of your hair. It has to be worth a try then hasn’t it? Treat your hair to a little pampering and protect it from damaging elements and you can have truly healthy and beautiful hair.

Have you ever tried any of the above tips? If so, did you see an improvement in the health of your hair.

Time Heals All Pain

Hello, I want to apologize for being really quiet on the blog this week but I am dealing with a lot of emotional pain and I can’t seem to snap out of it. My trip to Georgia was amazing and I had the opportunity to spend time with my grandparents and close friends. I even saw a snake while cruising around the old country roads where my grandfather was raised.

When I arrived back home Monday night I felt weird and needed to lie down. The next morning I discovered my voice had come back clear as ever. This immediately freaked me out and I couldn’t help but wonder if and when it would leave again. Sure enough yesterday afternoon while talking to my sister I went to stand up and got the worse pain in my head and I could hear my heartbeat in my ear. I went to open my mouth to tell my dog to get down and once again my voice was altered. My mom and sister both freaked out and we rushed to the hospital but they had us waiting so long in the waiting room that we just left. Although my speech is clear again I just can’t be happy because I don’t know what tomorrow will bring. I just cry and stay in bed because I don’t want to hear about how happy I should be. Is that weird?

I have been a ball of emotions for the past few days. I’m confused, hurt, and sad. No doctor knows what happened and I just feel like I’m losing it. Right now my mom is trying to make an appointment with a doctor who specializes in Mitochondrial Diseases. I’m hoping to have a chance to speak with him because I can’t keep going through losing my voice, having zero energy, stomach upset, and headaches. I just can’t deal with it anymore. I’ll hopefully pick up my mood by next week and will return with product reviews and giveaways. Until then just a few reminders:
