ST: I read that you started your career as a fashion stylist and later a celebrity stylist. Do you feel this background set the stage for you owning your own line today? Or was this dream embedded in you from childhood?
PC: I have always loved fashion upon finishing graduate school I knew immediately I did not fit into corporate America. I started working and quickly realized that I was unhappy in my field of study. My passion was fashion and it was my destiny. See I come from a family that values education and I am so glad I have an advanced degree it helps me to think analytically. ( Editors Note: Patrick T Cooper earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Public Administration from DePaul University) So to all of the young people who may stumble upon this article, finish school first and have a solid foundation to build your empire. As far as the career in fashion styling I believe I excelled explosively because I love pairing color and textures in clothing. Furthermore I love to use fashion as a way to live vicariously through the concept of the event that the client maybe attending. My guarantee to any of my clients has always been if you don't get a compliment within the first 5 minutes of your appearance at the event my services are free. When I touched clients I listened to their needs and wants and built wardrobe that fit their comfort levels while creating memorable wow factor for red carpets. With that said I perfected the ability to fit, tailor and build silhouettes for almost any body type. This skill set allows me to build swim and resort wear that speaks to the consumer. I definitely value my background as a stylist because it taught me how to capture the attention of the camera on red carpet and how to work with media outlets to build brands all of which I plan to maximize in the delivery of the Patrick T Cooper Resort Collection.
ST: When coming up with the over all look or theme for your swim wear what inspired you?
PC: I am inspired by vibrant color, textures, and the possibility of creating beautiful garments that people will live their best life in. Aesthetically speaking I love old Hollywood glamour and the idea of creating beauty without exposing all of the physical attributes of the female silhouette. When you look at the current collection you will see vintage inspiration elements that we feel that women will love and adore.
ST: Do you feel your line will appeal to all women? Meaning could you see women whether a size two or size 12 wearing your line with confidence?
PC: I absolutely see all women of all shapes and sizes in my collection. In my design I built in support for the body to give every women the opportunity to live the Patrick T Cooper experience. I want all women to love themselves from the inside out and upon their arrival at en exotic location or their place of holiday rest to place an article on from my collection so they can ... Live In Color.
ST: What has been the overall reaction to your collection?
PC: I am humble by the WOW that I have received regarding the collection. I hope to grow the collection and build a legacy in resort and the swim fashion industry
ST: With a man of your talents I'm sure this is only the tip of the ice berg for you. What can we expect to see from your brand in the future?
PC: I am living my dream. To be able to create fashionable and fabulous garments is the best feeling in the world. I intend to grow the brand to include men's swim, children's swim, accessories for swim and eventually active wear to allow people to be comfortable and chic. I have my work cut out for me and with persistence I plan to keep moving full steam ahead.
