My Shade of Brown- Beauty subscription for Women of Color

This post is directed at all of my tan ladies out there. Are you currently subscribed to a monthly beauty subscription like Myglam, Birchbox, or Beauty Army? These monthly subscriptions are wonderful but do you occasionally receive a foundation or hair care product that just wasn’t made for your skin tone or hair texture? I know that I have and up until now we have never really had a beauty subscription service that caters to our skin tone and hair textures. For all you curly haired tan goddesses out there you can finally rejoice because a new company called My Shade of Brown has created a monthly subscription service just for us!

Beauty Subscriptions

Much like our other favorite beauty subscriptions, My Shade of Brown will deliver four to five premium samples to your door for only $10/month. But here is where they set themselves apart:

“By partnering with companies that are sensitive to the beauty needs of women of color, you will often receive products from established brands, stellar up and comers and newly discovered gems! “

That’s right ladies; finally you can receive a beauty box where you can use ALL of the samples each month. No more frustration when you receive foundation five shades lighter than you and no more anger when you open your box and see hair products geared toward women with straight silky hair. Finally there is a beauty subscription just for us and I have to say I am so excited! Back in early 2011 when My Shade of Brown was just a concept, I signed up to be one of the first to try their beauty subscription. On the third I received an email that my box had shipped and on the sixth my box arrived to my door. Very good service!

In my box I received a full size lip gloss from Big Girl Cosmetics, a body wash from Georgia by G & Company, a body moisturizer from Pooka Pure & Simple, a powder foundation from Lamik Beauty, and a liquid foundation sample from Yana cosmetics. I haven’t had a chance to try out any of these products just yet, but I can tell just from looking at these items, I am going to love them. I am interested to see how the foundations will work for my skin tone as I am a mixture of races and because of this my skin tone is often too dark for most main stream makeup brands and too light for makeup geared towards women of color. It’s a constant struggle but I’m hoping that My Shade of Brown will introduce me to new brands that will solve this problem for me. Look out for the full review of these products in the coming week.
